I want to extend a public “Welcome Home” to Tom Wells who had been away for a long darn time. Tom, I’m looking forward to shaking your hand when next our paths cross. We’ve missed having you around.
The next time you all see Ben Carey or Ron Ackerman, take the time to thank each of them for their service to TBW while on the Board of Directors. Both made capable contributions during their tenures and are to be commended. It is an extraordinary caliber of person who volunteers to be an integral part of TBW, for there are no particular rewards for doing so, and as any board member over the years can attest, it can take a great deal of commitment. The reasons men and women have given their time may vary slightly but in general it is the love of shooting the bow and arrow, and sharing that joy with others. But on a deeper level it is about the friendships, mentoring and fostering, all of which are vitally important.
TBW welcomes new director Mike Culbertson (At-Large Director, position 2) and returning director Rick Liebel (Southwest Director) to the Board. Mike and Rick were both vying for the position that Ben was giving up, but when another vacancy arose, we were able to find a place for each of them. Thanks, men, for being willing to do what you can to assist our TBW.
The 2007 members’ Rendezvous was another fine success. This was the first rendezvous in five years for which there weren’t any planning meetings; the core group of volunteers has the routine down so well they do it in their sleep. They are an incredible assembly of individuals. There again were dozens of generous donations from members; thanks go to everyone who gave. A favorite weekend highlight that comes to mind was Janny’s unscheduled midnight drive to the hospital when her grandson decided being born was going to take precedence over an archery event. Someone wondered aloud if he is the first Rendezvous weekend baby; good question. The first four Blanket Shoot prizes selected, in the order selected, were donated by Kenny Gibson, Grover Ramsey, Bill Curtindale and Brent Okita. The quality of the items they put down exemplifies what a Blanket Shoot is all about.
WAJAM was great. What more need be said? The effort put forth by the men and women who made it happen was once again extraordinary.
I hope your early hunting seasons were exciting and fruitful. Don’t overlook the TBW Mid-Season Tune-Up being held this month in black Diamond; it’s a good way to stay sharp for the late season. Details are in this issue of the Toxophilite and can also be found at www.tbwonline.org. This shoot for members and non-members alike; the only criterion is that everyone is shooting a traditional or primitive bow. How about calling up an old friend who you haven’t seen at an event lately and inviting them out?
Finally, congratulations to Clint who on opening day took a mule deer buck with a Serviceberry self-bow of his own making! …and they said it couldn’t be done. Way to go, Clinton.
Have fun,
Dale
