We also learned that there is no charge for special grips since they are built by hand, one at a time.
In addition, we learned that the special orders and instructions can not be made directly to their Howatt factory in Yakima. The customer must place the order through an authorized Martin dealer or through the headquarters office in Walla Walla. By the way, if you have a favorite quote or special Bible verse that you would like to have inscribed on your special bow, Martin would do it. However, the artist who does the work prefers something short and simple.
After the two hour tour, Wayne and I left with a very positive impression of the Martin facility. These craftsmen produce a wide assortment of traditional bows that are handsome, great performers, and they are fairly priced. As traditional archers and bowhunters in Washington, we are fortunate to have such a fine production company within a short driving distance. I recommend that anyone who loves traditional archery and is interested in how recurves and longbows are crafted to give Martin Archery a call and arrange a tour of their Howatt plant.
Montana hunting was very good to me this year. I filled all my tags. Turkey and Elk fell to my Longbow and the Deer to a 243 rifle. Dave Bell and I went to the Charles M Wildlife refuge for Elk and Deer in September and October. I was lucky enough to be the # 1 shooter out of Dave's Double Bull blind that we had set up by a small water hole that night. Now Dave will be the # 1 Shooter for the rest of my life or until he gets his Elk. That might take some time, Ha, Ha! It's a pleasure to hunt with Dave because he put up with me and let me be the # 1 shooter. I've been out of State many times and have never filled my Elk tag. Thanks Dave.
The Deer was killed in Broadherst Mt during a late October Rifle hunt with Joe Manley and the Turkey was taken around Columbus Mt during the Spring hunt also with Joe.
I have bought 20 acres above the Yellowstone River and will become a Mt residence near Columbus this year. I have lots of work ahead of me but I'm thrilled by it all. I've always wanted to build a Log Cabin and look forward to the challenge.
Sent along some pics of our hunt, hope you enjoy.
I'll be at the Stump shoot and our banquet this year. Hope to see ya all.
Catch ya down the trail,
Jer.
