As time went on I watched the gadgets get more serious every year and so did the competitions. Every year a new bow, some type of new arrow or string, a bow for the hot days, a bow for the cold days. Man I'm glad those days are gone for me.
Now days it's more like deer and elk rendezvous. We meet once a year, elk camp is the location. It has been the same location, now going on 40 years. It's been logged twice the road moved once, but it's still elk camp. There's a varying number in camp each year, sometimes eight, maybe twelve hard to say. The new gadgets come out, some stories are new, some are old, it just doesn't matter we all made it.
Whether its age or just laziness, I prefer deer and elk camping. By just watching and listening every year I'm taught a new life lesson. Last year Bob Duncan, at the age of eighty, raised his cane and pointed to the low ridge right above camp. "I made it up there today, it's a good day".
